This Pinot Grigio is our “flagship,”
the wine that has won for us the prominent position we
presently enjoy in the U.S. market. At the same time,
it represents a continuing challenge: to produce a Pinot
Grigio of great complexity and depth, one that will be
immediately recognized and appreciated for its distinctiveness
and unique personality. To achieve the character we want,
we add some tocai friulano (15-20%), the native variety
that local vintners call the “great challenge,”
or the touchstone of their winemaking past and future.
This wine is redolent of acacia honey and ripe pear, with
rich flavors and a lengthy finish.
Some of the grapes are sourced from vineyards in the
foothills of the Carnic Alps, in magredi, low-yielding
soils on gravel beds; other grapes come from Friuli’s
eastern hills.
The pinot grigio grapes are picked during the first
week in September, the tocai two weeks later.
The grapes are pressed and the must settles and clarifies
overnight; selected yeast strains then carry out the
fermentation in stainless steel.
Our Pinot Grigio matures in steel for about six to eight
months before being bottled.
Total production: Ca. 8,000 cases.
Alcohol: 12.9%
Total acidity: 5.6 gr/li.
