Our wine
estate is located in the ancient Castello di Cosa, sections
of which date back to the year 1000. Located a few kilometers
from Spilimbergo, world-renowned for its production
of mosaics, this magnificent fortress was built to guard
the territories along the banks of the area’s
largest river, the Tagliamento, which divides the entire
region in two.
The building underwent numerous changes through the
years. In World War I, it housed a military garrison
and was heavily bombed by Austrian artillery during
the retreat towards the river Piave. |

In
1921 it was restored, but into a Palladian-style villa
rather than a fortress. After passing into the possession
of a noble Friulan family that fell onto hard times
following World War II, the property was abandoned and
the structure began rapidly to fall apart. In 1974,
now in very poor condition, it was purchased by Franco
Furlan; in 1978 it became the premises of his winery
and the “Castelcosa” wine brand.
Today, wines continue to be produced here, but now the
splendid palace with its Venetian tile floors, its large
frescoes and spacious, elegant halls, is also the scene
of exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and weddings.

For the pleasure of our many guests
and clients who come here from all over the world, we
have converted into guest quarters an old stone horse-barn;
it boasts a local-style taverna with the obligatory
fogolar, the fireplace around which Friulan family life
has always taken place.
A very old and attractive rock wall embraces the guest
house and a grove of centuries-old trees where our guests
and vistors are welcome to relax and enjoy their leisure.
