Castelcosa has approximately 6 hectares
(ca 15 acres) of estate vineyards and another 40 (99
ac) under contract in three of the most viticulturally-important
areas of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region—Grave,
Collio, Colli Orientali del Friuli.
We utilize native as well as international grape varieties.
The native white varieties include ribolla gialla, tocai
friulano, and verduzzo friulano, while traminer, chardonnay,
pinot grigio, and sauvignon blanc represent the international
types; for the reds, we work with the native refosco
and schiopettino as well as with the international merlot,
cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and pinot noir.
We focus special attention on wines that express our
own particular personality, with unique blends we ourselves
have created. Such is Cuvée Tai di Castelcosa,
a fragrant white wine of remarkable character that has
served as our “flagship” for many years
now. More recently, we have introduced Sant’Antonio,
a barrel-fermented blend of native varieties, and SoleTerraVite
(SunEarthVine), a firmly-structured red wine with considerable
body that receives 2 years’ barrel-ageing. Picolit
deserves special mention, since we devote no little
passion to this traditional Friulan wine; our efforts
and its quality were recognized by a medal at the 2001
Concorso Internazionale Vinitaly.
Right from its early years, Castelcosa has had as its
objective the creation of wines of unique character,
wines which would display unmistakably their varietal
composition but also be marked by great fulness, body,
and concentration of flavours. Wine-lovers enjoying
the wine has always been our most important goal; we
are cognizant that consumers’ opinion of us depends
totally on whether they have enjoyed our wine and we
are determined to win their approval. Our wines are
distributed in many countries throughout the world,
receiving awards and critical acclaim in the press and
in competitions wherever they are available.
